Google Cloud is enhancing its range of products and services by establishing a regional hub in Doha, Qatar. This marks the company’s inaugural hub in the GCC region.

The recently introduced Doha hub is integrated into Google Cloud’s extensive global network of 37 regions and 112 zones. As a result, Google Cloud services will now be accessible in more than 200 countries and territories across the globe.

According to research commissioned by Google Cloud and conducted by Access Partnership, establishing the new hub is projected to impact Qatar’s economy significantly. Between 2023 and 2030, the hub’s launch will contribute approximately $18.9 billion to Qatar’s economic output. Additionally, in 2030 alone, it is expected to create around 25,000 job opportunities.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Qatar Free Zone Authority, the hub has been established with the objective of facilitating the digital transformation of companies across various sectors and of all scales in Qatar and the broader Middle East region. It aims to provide the necessary support and resources to expedite adopting digital technologies and advancing innovation.

Google has stated that the new Doha region has three zones, allowing users to distribute applications and storage for better protection against service disruptions. The region will also offer key Google Cloud products, such as Computer Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Google Kubernetes Engine, Spanner, and others. These products provide users with a wide range of tools and capabilities to effectively meet their cloud computing needs and support their digital infrastructure.

This initiative reflects the internet giant’s dedication to investing in the digital landscape of the Middle East region. The establishment of the new cloud region in Qatar is the latest investment made by Google Cloud, following the recent opening of a country office and virtual center of excellence in Msheireb, Doha.

The official launch event was graced by the presence of ministers from the Qatari Cabinet and executives from prominent Qatari businesses, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

H.E. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, commended the launch as it aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030. “The new cloud region will contribute to giving impetus to economic and productivity growth, and will allow various government and private companies and institutions within Qatar the opportunity to achieve significant efficiency gains by adopting flexible features in dealing with digital technology.”

Meanwhile, Adaire Fox-Martin, President of Google Cloud Go-to-Market, said, “The Doha cloud region will be a catalyst for economic development and will create more employment opportunities in the Qatari market as more businesses grow and expand with the power of cloud technologies.”
