Globally, supply chains are witnessing structural transformation. Growing consumer demand and business requirements require supply chains to be more efficient and cost and time-effective.

Expectations such as on-demand and same-day deliveries are compelling players to think beyond the existing vehicle-based logistics networks.

According to the World Economic Forum, 85 million packages and documents are delivered worldwide daily. Fulfilling these staggering numbers of deliveries is time-consuming and expensive.

To tackle the inefficiencies, many logistics stakeholders are turning to drone technology, which can control operational costs, overcome traffic bottlenecks, and reduce vehicular emissions while satisfying the customer’s appetite for on-demand and instant delivery.

Now, Saudi Arabia plans to use drones for transportation and shipment efficiency. Recently, logistics and supply chain solutions provider SAL Saudi Logistics Services Co teamed up with the Saudi-based technology firm Space Age to provide the technical solutions and infrastructure necessary to transfer and localize the drone industry.

Under the deal, both parties will develop the technical solutions and infrastructure required to facilitate the transfer and localization of Saudi Arabia’s drone industry.

SAL manages a huge share of Saudi Arabia’s cargo-handling industry, with a clientele including global airlines, freight forwarders, and Saudi ministries.
