Qatar’s new law aims to boost employment in the private sector
The law mandates the issuance of standard employment contract templates for job nationalization.
A skilled and competitive workforce is critical to national success, serving as the backbone of economic growth, innovation, and social stability. As part of its National Vision 2030, Qatar is focused on equipping Qatari nationals with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in various industries.
To address several challenges related to nationalization efforts in Qatar, a new law has been issued to nationalize private-sector employment and ensure job security for its nationals.
The new legislation, issued by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, aims to provide a stable work environment for Qataris by mandating the issuance of standard employment contract templates for job nationalization. The law will be binding on entities subject to its provisions.
The law aligns with the Third National Development Strategy, which aims to transform the country into a more productive labor market. It focuses on high-skilled jobs, economic diversification, fostering an investment ecosystem, and including more Qataris in the private sector workforce.
Qatar’s Ministry of Labor said the new law’s main goal is to enhance the labor market’s attractiveness to the national workforce.
Other objectives include increasing companies’ ability to attract and integrate citizens, encouraging Qatari participation in the private sector, and developing professional skills to meet market demands.
The new decree will go into effect six months after it is published in the country’s official gazette.
