Emirates Transport is launching pilot tests for hydrogen and electric commercial vehicles provided by Al Ghurair Motors. Announced at GITEX Global 2024, this initiative is part of a partnership to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly transportation solutions. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) represents a collaborative effort to explore and promote alternative-fuel commercial vehicles.

The viability of hydrogen and electric commercial vehicles will be assessed through pilot projects, paving the way for their deployment. This initiative supports the UAE’s vision to transition 50% of its roads to electric vehicles by 2050 and achieve net-zero emissions by the same year. The pilot projects will feature hydrogen and electric-powered commercial vehicles, serving Emirates Transport’s clients across business, government, and public sectors.

As part of the agreement, Al Ghurair Motors will deliver comprehensive technical training to Emirates Transport staff, equipping them with the necessary skills to operate and maintain hydrogen and electric commercial vehicles.

Emirates Transport operates over 46 workshops across the UAE, all of which will be equipped to maintain these vehicles. In parallel, mechanics will undergo training to support the integration and expansion of these advanced technologies.

Additionally, the required infrastructure will be developed, including charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) and fueling technologies for hydrogen.
