A recent global survey reveals a troubling trend in citizen satisfaction, with over half of respondents from 24 countries expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. This marks a significant 11% decline compared to the previous year. Notably, the United States experienced a dramatic 20% drop in confidence among its citizens.

In contrast, Saudi Arabia leads in citizen satisfaction, with 84% of its population reporting contentment with their lives. This suggests that the Kingdom’s governance and economic strategies resonate positively with its people, even amid global concerns about financial insecurity and political instability.

The survey, conducted by the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute in collaboration with Ipsos, examined citizens’ views on various topics, including the economy, health, technology, and government performance.

Conducted annually as part of the FII PRIORITY Compass, the study employs a demographically representative sample to gather insights that shape discussions at FII Institute events.

The survey revealed that 57% of respondents are experiencing a worsening inflation crisis, particularly in the Global North, where 66% view rising prices as a major concern. Governance also stands out as a significant issue, with 71% expressing dissatisfaction regarding corruption levels. Healthcare is another area of concern, as more than half of the respondents highlighted inadequate medical services as a pressing issue.

In contrast, environmental issues ranked lowest on the priority list, with only 13% identifying them as their top concern.

Richard Attias, CEO of the FII Institute, stated, “This study serves as a wake-up call for leaders and policymakers worldwide. The findings reflect the genuine concerns of citizens globally. We have a unique opportunity to shape a better and safer world, but this can only happen if leaders listen to the issues that matter.”
