The GCC has embraced AI innovation across sectors to drive economic growth, with Saudi Arabia playing a central role in the region’s growing AI sector. A recent YouGov survey commissioned by SAP reveals that Saudi enterprises are making significant progress in adopting enterprise-grade AI.

The survey findings, presented at this year’s LEAP and DeepFest showcase in Riyadh, will guide SAP’s strategy to expand collaborations with customers and partners in the Kingdom, aiming to develop industry-specific AI solutions at its Experience Innovation Center in Khobar.

The survey examined several factors critical to successful AI implementation, such as migrating core business functions to the cloud, current AI adoption, data quality, and staff expertise. Key findings show that 75% of Saudi enterprises are already hosting core business functions on the cloud, with another 22% planning to make the transition within the next 15 months. Cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions enhance AI by offering real-time data and scalability, allowing for seamless integration of AI models into business operations.

The survey also revealed that 64% of businesses in Saudi Arabia are highly confident in the quality of their data, while 32% are somewhat confident. Access to high-quality data is essential for AI systems, as it allows them to identify patterns, make informed decisions, and deliver actionable insights.

“It is very encouraging to think that around 96% of these companies will be hosting core business functions on the cloud by the end of next year. SAP customers moving to the cloud immediately benefit from the cutting-edge Business AI infused in our cloud solutions,” said Ahmed AlFaifi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of SAP, Middle East Africa – North.

The survey also highlights that many companies are already leveraging AI across various business functions, with customer service (45%), marketing (42%), accounting and finance (41%), sales (41%), and human resources (36%) leading the way.

Despite these advancements, challenges persist, including costs (51%), a shortage of skilled personnel (47%), integration with existing systems (42%), and privacy concerns (41%). To tackle these issues, SAP is investing in training programs such as the SAP Dual Study Program, SAP Academy for Engineering, and the SAP Young Professionals Program.
