Qatar’s new campaign for FIFA World Cup 22 spotlights football’s cultural value
The ‘Scoring For The Goals’ campaign highlights football's significance in enhancing sustainable development, peace, tolerance, inclusion and climate action
The world awaits with bated breath to witness magic unfold on the green turf as the countdown continues to the FIFA World Cup 2022.
All eyes have been set on Qatar as it gears up to host the most sustainable edition of the World Cup in the tournament’s history. In that light, the country recently launched the “Scoring For The Goals” campaign at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The campaign, aimed at highlighting the value of football in enhancing sustainable development, peace, tolerance, inclusion and climate action, emphasizes the importance of unity for individuals and nations. It urges all to use this power for a better future for both present and future generations and the need to accomplish the UN’s 17 goals to create a more sustainable, peaceful, and prosperous planet for all humanity.
“Tonight’s gathering marks the commencement of the Scoring For The Goals initiative led by Qatar and the Education Above All Foundation, an initiative designed to integrate and enhance football’s role as a vehicle to attain the targets comprising the 17 SDGs,” said Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, at the inauguration ceremony.
Football, in particular, breaks down barriers, creates friendships and enhances cultural understanding, irrespective of beliefs, nationality or economic status. The game touches our passion and brings out the best of us as individuals and human beings. When harnessed properly, it profoundly improves the lives of all and transforms our world for the better, Al Thawadi added.
The ceremony was attended by high-level personalities from the teams of the other 31 countries that qualified for the tournament.
