Abu Dhabi has unveiled “Barakatna,” a new initiative led by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens as part of the emirate’s comprehensive community care framework.

Launched in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, the initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to fostering family cohesion and social solidarity.

The announcement, made at Qasr Al Bahr, followed a briefing by the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi and the Family Development Foundation, outlining the program’s goals.

“Barakatna,” meaning “our blessings,” will focus on enhancing home care services for elderly residents, ensuring they can live stable, healthy, and fulfilling lives within their family environments.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed emphasized the importance of the initiative as a continuation of the nation’s commitment to honoring its senior citizens and recognizing their invaluable contributions to the UAE’s development. He highlighted that “Barakatna” reflects the country’s deep appreciation for their sacrifices and reaffirms their role as pillars of society, whose wisdom and experience guide future generations.

The initiative will establish an integrated system of community services to support daily life for seniors and their caregivers, foster family unity, and help caregivers balance personal, professional, and social responsibilities.

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan endorsed the initiative’s six key services, which will be delivered in collaboration with various Abu Dhabi entities, including the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority and the Department of Municipalities and Transport.

These services include a Temporary Alternative Care program for senior citizens when family members are unable to provide support, a Home Improvements initiative to enhance caregiving facilities, and extended housing loan repayment terms to ease financial pressures.

The initiative also offers flexible work arrangements for caregivers, enabling families to better balance caregiving duties with their professional commitments.
