Abu Dhabi launches first vertical LPG tank system to enhance safety in food sector
This development aims to reduce the risk of gas leaks and operational incidents, while streamlining refueling procedures.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has introduced the emirate’s first vertical Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tank system for food establishments, offering a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional LPG cylinders.
The new system features a vertical tank with a capacity of up to 125 gallons, equipped with an explosion-proof vaporizer, and is refilled on-site by licensed operators, eliminating the need for cylinder storage and handling.
This initiative aims to reduce the risk of gas leaks and operational incidents while streamlining refueling procedures. The DoE has issued Technical Bulletin No. (1/2025), outlining the technical specifications, safety measures, and regulatory requirements for tank installations in accordance with NFPA standards and the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code.
Dr. Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director General for Regulatory Affairs at the DoE, said the initiative reflects the department’s commitment to public safety by ensuring secure operating environments for food businesses. He also emphasized the vital role of gas as a key energy source for the sector.
Engineer Ahmed Al Sheebani, Executive Director of the Petroleum Products Regulatory Affairs Sector at the DoE, said the initiative aims to establish a safer and more sustainable system in line with international best practices. He noted the department’s collaboration with licensed private operators to implement the system in accordance with regulatory standards.
The DoE has urged food establishments, particularly those not connected to underground gas networks or centralized LPG systems, to adopt the new system to ensure compliance with evolving safety regulations.
