Abu Dhabi to host 5-gigawatt AI campus backed by OpenAI, Oracle, and NVIDIA
The initiative aims to provide nation-scale compute, low-latency inference, and best-in-class infrastructure to power AI applications across sectors

G42, OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank Group, and Cisco are collaborating on Stargate UAE, a new AI infrastructure cluster planned for the UAE–U.S. AI Campus in Abu Dhabi.
The project reflects growing cooperation between the UAE and the U.S. on artificial intelligence. Stargate UAE will be a 1-gigawatt compute cluster developed by G42 and operated jointly by OpenAI and Oracle. Cisco is providing AI-focused networking systems, SoftBank is contributing investment, and NVIDIA will supply its Grace Blackwell GB300 systems. The first 200-megawatt phase is expected to be operational in 2026.
The initiative aims to provide nation-scale compute, low-latency inference, and best-in-class infrastructure to power AI applications across sectors such as healthcare, energy, finance, and transportation.
The UAE–U.S. AI Campus, the future site of Stargate UAE, spans 10 square miles and is poised to become the largest AI data center deployment outside the United States, with a planned capacity of 5 gigawatts. Powered by a mix of nuclear, solar, and natural gas, the campus is designed with sustainability in mind. It will also include a science park to foster innovation and nurture local talent.
Peng Xiao, CEO of G42, said, “The launch of Stargate UAE is a significant step in the UAE–U.S. AI partnership… building a bridge – rooted in trust and ambition – that helps bring the benefits of AI to economies, societies, and people around the world.”
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, described the project as “the first major milestone in our OpenAI for Countries initiative… ensuring some of this era’s most important breakthroughs… can emerge from more places and benefit the world.”
Oracle’s Larry Ellison highlighted the importance of digital sovereignty, while NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang said, “With Stargate UAE, we are building the AI infrastructure to power the country’s bold vision.”
Masayoshi Son of SoftBank added, “The UAE becomes the first nation beyond America to embrace this sovereign AI platform.” Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins concluded, “We’re building smart, secure, and energy-efficient networks that will turn intelligence into impact at a global scale.”
