ADNOC is strategizing to position itself as a leader in AI-enabled energy advancements and adopting pioneering technologies. As part of its multi-year program to accelerate the deployment of AI across its value chain, ADNOC has partnered with telecommunications and technology company e& to build the energy industry’s largest private 5G wireless network.

The project will cover 11,000 square kilometers, providing high-bandwidth connectivity across ADNOC’s onshore and offshore operations. This will enable the integration of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities at remote facilities.

Additionally, the 5G network will relay information from sensors across 12,000 wells and pipelines to autonomous control rooms, enabling real-time assessments to extend asset lifespan and ensure field safety.

“Global demand is rising for both energy and AI, so by investing in cutting-edge connectivity across our operations, we can ensure a secure, reliable, and responsible energy supply. This strategic partnership will generate value, enable faster, smarter decisions, and future-proof our business while ensuring the safety of our people and the environment,” said Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and ADNOC managing director and group CEO.

Scheduled for completion by 2025, the network is projected to generate $1.5 billion in its first five years. It aims to achieve cost reduction through automation, enhance efficiency, minimize emissions, and improve safety.

Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Alzaabi, Chairman of e&, remarked, “Connectivity is the backbone of technological advancements, and we’re leveraging our expertise in network and AI innovations to drive breakthroughs in the energy sector and beyond.”
