A new survey reveals that artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability will be key trends in the construction sectors of the UAE and Saudi Arabia in 2025. The Construction Pulse survey, conducted by Versatile International in collaboration with Ipsos, polled 168 senior-level professionals in the construction industry, including developers, architects, designers, and project management consultants.

The survey found that 57% of respondents believe AI will be the leading trend influencing the construction sector in 2025, transforming workflows and decision-making. Additionally, 55% highlighted sustainability as a key driver of innovation, with a growing focus on renewable energy integration and green building certifications in projects.

However, the survey also revealed significant challenges. Labour shortages were a concern for 56% of respondents over the next five to 10 years, with 46% emphasizing the need for more specialized skilled workers. In the short term, 51% pointed to rising costs and increasing project complexity as the most immediate issues.

Despite these challenges, 53% of construction leaders in the UAE and Saudi Arabia prioritize regional market expansion as a key focus for growth in 2025.

Marco Fahd, Chairman and CEO of Versatile International, described the findings as indicative of an industry at a “crossroads.” He emphasized that while AI and sustainability create opportunities, challenges like labor shortages and rising costs necessitate practical solutions, including enhanced workforce development and efficiency.

Fahd emphasized the survey’s role in establishing an industry benchmark, highlighting key areas of challenge and opportunity. He suggested engaging specialist consultants could help mitigate costly delays and supply chain issues.

The report stressed the importance of collaboration, workforce development, and innovation in meeting growing demands while maintaining cost efficiency and quality.
