The Egyptian cabinet has approved a proposal from AMEA Power, a subsidiary of Al Nowais Investments (UAE), to develop substantial new renewable energy projects by the summer of 2025. This initiative aims to boost the country’s clean energy capacity.

The plan includes an additional 500 megawatts of solar power following the completion of the ongoing 500-megawatt Abydos solar project. Furthermore, 1,500 megawatts of solar and wind power will be added to the national grid.

This expansion will be achieved by constructing an additional 1,000-megawatt solar project and completing the ongoing 500-megawatt Amunet wind project. Notably, a battery storage system will also be integrated into the network.

AMEA Power’s projects are expected to add a substantial 2,000 megawatts of clean energy to Egypt’s grid before the summer of 2025.

The cabinet meeting also addressed broader economic development initiatives. They approved a presidential draft decision for a financing agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB). This agreement aims to support the program’s first phase, strengthen private sector involvement, and diversify the Egyptian economy.

The program prioritizes fostering private sector growth through improvements in the business environment and by promoting green economic initiatives. Additionally, the cabinet approved Egypt’s subscription to shares in the AfDB, further solidifying its partnership with the financial institution.

Finally, the cabinet endorsed the allocation of land plots in North Sinai to establish logistics zones. This move aligns with President El-Sisi’s vision of positioning Egypt as a global hub for trade and logistics.
