The World Trade Organization (WTO) will play a pivotal role at the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, this November.

Under the leadership of Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the WTO Secretariat will actively participate in and support various trade-focused events during the conference. A dedicated COP29 portal on the WTO website will provide comprehensive information on these activities, including news, photos, and resources.

Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is expected to participate in the World Leaders Climate Action Summit on November 12th and 13th and launch new publications in collaboration with key partners.

A central feature of COP29 will be the Trade and Investment House pavilions, hosted by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy in partnership with the WTO, ICC, ITC, and UNCTAD. These pavilions will serve as a platform for discussions on critical issues at the intersection of trade, investment, and climate action, featuring interactive exhibits, workshops, and demonstrations that showcase innovative solutions.

A dedicated Climate Finance, Investment, and Trade (FIT) Day will offer an in-depth platform for discussing how trade and investment can support developing countries in transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

The Azerbaijan COP29 Presidency will highlight its initiatives and host events on key topics, such as sustainable stock exchanges, decarbonizing key industries, and integrating small and medium-sized enterprises into low-carbon value chains.

COP29, taking place from November 11 to 22, 2024, will feature special events addressing critical global challenges, emphasizing how trade policies can advance climate goals.
