Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has unveiled a new smart solution designed to optimize the planning and design of its 11kV electricity distribution networks. The system aims to enhance the design efficiency, reduce time and costs, and improve the reliability and sustainability of Dubai’s electricity infrastructure. It is currently being rolled out across DEWA’s Power and Water Planning Division.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, stated that the initiative aligns with the leadership’s vision to integrate advanced technologies across key sectors, thereby enhancing productivity and service delivery.

“In line with the vision of the wise leadership to strengthen the integration of advanced technologies across key sectors to boost productivity and improve service efficiency, we have developed this smart solution, which reflects DEWA’s approach to embedding digital innovation as a core pillar in the development of planning and operations in the energy sector,” said Al Tayer.

He added, “By transforming multiple data sources into practical tools, the solution supports decision-making and improves performance efficiency. Designing electricity distribution networks using advanced software solutions reduces the time required to prepare plans, lowers costs and enhances design accuracy and flexibility. This, in turn, strengthens the readiness of the electricity network to keep pace with rapid urban and economic growth.”

According to DEWA, the system includes advanced software that generates two databases linked to network design tools. It integrates data from several sources, including peak load sheets, the SAP system, and master single-line diagrams, analysing and consolidating the information into a unified format that enables more accurate and efficient network designs.

The implementation has already delivered measurable benefits, including reduced planning and design costs, shorter turnaround times, and more streamlined electricity network layouts. DEWA said these outcomes are improving engineering quality and ensuring continuity of service in line with global best practices.

Abdulla Al Aghbari, Acting Executive Vice President of Power and Water Planning at DEWA, highlighted the solution’s impact on operational efficiency.

“This advanced software solution provides an effective tool for planning teams by integrating data from multiple sources into a single platform. It accelerates and improves design processes, and supports more efficient planning decisions,” said Al Aghbari. “This innovation reflects the division’s commitment to adopting smart solutions that enhance the resilience of the electricity grid and support Dubai’s future growth requirements.”

The development highlights DEWA’s focus on organisational innovation and investment in homegrown digital capabilities, reinforcing its role in the global energy transition and supporting Dubai’s ambition to build a smart, reliable, and sustainable electricity network.
