Doha is hosting the inaugural M360 MENA on November 18-19, bringing together key players from the mobile, technology, and policy sectors to discuss the future of the digital economy in the Middle East and North Africa. Organized by the GSMA, with support from Ooredoo and Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Technology, the event comes as the region’s digital economy is expected to expand significantly—from $180 billion to $780 billion by 2030.

The event began with an opening ceremony led by Mohammed bin Ali Al-Mannai, Qatar’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, alongside Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo, Group CEO of Ooredoo, and Jawad Abbassi, Head of MENA at GSMA. Discussions centered on leveraging 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and mobile infrastructure to address challenges such as affordability, digital literacy, and access to devices. The GSMA’s Mobile Economy MENA 2024 report, unveiled during the conference, highlighted the role of mobile technology in driving economic growth and addressing societal challenges across the region.

Speakers from key organizations, including Ooredoo Fintech, the Digital Cooperation Organization, and stc, highlighted the importance of collaboration in fostering digital innovation. Exclusive discussions on 5G and spectrum initiatives brought together policymakers and industry leaders to create an enabling environment for sustainable investments and inclusive growth.

The conference also spotlighted the rapid digital transformation reshaping industries in the region. With MENA leading in 5G adoption, particularly within Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the focus is on the commercialization of 5G services like Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. AI is emerging as a cornerstone of MENA’s digital infrastructure, driving network optimization, automation, and enhanced customer experiences. As mobile data traffic is expected to triple in the next five years, telecom operators are investing in innovative models to meet rising demands while fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Environmental sustainability was another critical focus, with the mobile industry reaffirming its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Operators across MENA are making significant progress in reducing their carbon footprint while expanding connectivity, highlighting the crucial role of partnerships with governments and communities in reaching these ambitious goals.

Ooredoo Qatar’s Chief Executive Officer, Sheikh Ali Bin Jabor Al Thani, said, “Hosting M360 MENA in Doha reflects Ooredoo Qatar’s commitment to advancing digital transformation across the region. We are proud to be at the forefront, leading initiatives in AI and 5G that have a direct impact on enhancing connectivity and quality of life for the people of Qatar. By collaborating with the GSMA and our regional partners, we are dedicated to creating a robust digital ecosystem that supports our nation’s vision of becoming a leader in technology and innovation. Together, we are laying the foundations for a future where digital connectivity empowers communities and strengthens our economy.”

M360 MENA also showcased innovative technologies shaping connectivity and digital inclusion, with exhibitors and sponsors like China Mobile, Comarch, iHorizons, and Google Cloud playing a key role. The event further emphasized the transformative impact of technologies such as 5G, IoT, AI, and cloud computing in driving smart city initiatives and enhancing urban efficiency.
