Dubai is strengthening its global clean energy alliances as it advances its long-term decarbonization and digital transformation agenda.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), met with Robert Hertzberg, Senior Fellow at the Mission Possible Partnership and board member of First Public Hydrogen, along with a high-level delegation from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), to explore collaboration in sustainable energy and advanced innovation, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The discussions focused on deepening cooperation in research and development, innovation, and capacity building. Key areas of focus included smart grids, renewable energy, energy storage systems, network upgrades, energy efficiency, cybersecurity, photovoltaic system integration, and advanced data analytics, all of which are critical to modernizing power infrastructure.

Senior DEWA executives, including Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, and Ghanim Alqassim, Senior Manager of Solar Energy, also attended the discussions.

Al Tayer reaffirmed DEWA’s commitment to partnering with leading international institutions to exchange technical expertise and strengthen national capabilities. He emphasized empowering Emirati professionals to play a greater role in shaping the future of sustainable energy while accelerating the energy transition and digital transformation.

The collaboration supports the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, both of which aim to position Dubai as a global hub for clean energy and climate action.

As utilities worldwide navigate rising demand, increasing grid complexity, and decarbonization pressures, DEWA’s continued international engagement reflects its intent to combine innovation, research, and talent development to future-proof the emirate’s energy ecosystem.
