Dubai celebrates Sheikh Mohammed’s 20 years with 20,000-tree green initiative
Tree-planting activities will engage a wide range of stakeholders, including schools, universities, public and private sector entities, as well as community members.
Dubai has launched a large-scale tree-planting initiative to mark the 20-year leadership milestone of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The initiative reinforces the emirate’s long-term commitment to sustainability and enhancing the quality of life.
Led by Dubai Municipality in collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the project aims to plant 20,000 trees across public parks, residential neighborhoods, and educational institutions throughout the emirate. It is designed to deliver lasting environmental and social benefits while strengthening Dubai’s position as a global leader in sustainable urban development.
The tree-planting activities will involve a diverse range of stakeholders, including schools, universities, public and private sector entities, as well as community members. The initiative encourages collective participation in environmental preservation and civic responsibility.
To support the rollout, Dubai Municipality has allocated several public parks for planting activities. These include Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Pond Park, Nakheel Park in Al Aweer, the Quranic Garden in Al Khawaneej, Al Mizhar Second, Blossoms Park in Nad Al Sheba, Al Safa Park in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz Pond Park, and Al Warqa’a 3.
Schools and universities will register their participation through the KHDA, which will coordinate with Dubai Municipality to provide saplings and ensure efficient and organized implementation across participating institutions.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the initiative honors the development journey led by His Highness and transforms a national milestone into a sustainable legacy for future generations.
Aisha Abdulla Miran, Director General of the KHDA, added that the initiative reflects His Highness’s commitment to a green and thriving environment. She noted that every tree planted today represents gratitude from future generations and helps instill values of responsibility and belonging.
The tree-planting drive also supports the Dubai Green Project and aligns with the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040. It contributes to broader efforts to expand green spaces, enhance air quality, and improve the emirate’s urban landscape.
