Dubai Health Tourism sees surge in 2023, welcoming over 691,000 international visitors
Dubai’s health tourism sector generated indirect revenues of $626.2 million in 2023.
Dubai’s health tourism sector has experienced notable growth in 2023, reflecting the goals set by the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. According to a recent report from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), the emirate welcomed over 691,000 international health tourists this year, an increase from the 674,000 recorded in 2022.
In parallel with the rise in international health tourism, healthcare spending in Dubai has also increased, surpassing $280.4 million in 2023, compared to $270 million in 2022. The health tourism sector contributed significantly to the emirate’s economy, generating indirect revenues of $626.2 million and substantially boosting Dubai’s GDP while supporting key economic sectors.
The report further revealed demographic insights into the health tourists: 58% were women and 42% were men. Geographically, 33% of the tourists originated from Asia, 28% from GCC countries, and 23% from Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Dentistry emerged as the leading medical specialty in Dubai’s health tourism sector, capturing 29% of the demand. This was followed by dermatology at 27% and gynecology at 13%. Regional variations in demand were notable: Asia represented 33% of the demand for dermatology, while Arab and GCC countries accounted for 28%. Among these Arab and GCC nations, dentistry was particularly sought after, comprising 48% of their health tourism preferences.
