Dubai’s sustained position as a global hub for business and innovation was recently recognized by the Japan Mori Memorial Foundation’s Global Power City Index 2024 (GPCI). The UAE’s cosmopolitan emirate ranked eighth in the world and first in the region for its economic dynamism, commitment to innovation, and global connectivity.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, attributed the city’s global recognition to the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

“The city has created one of the world’s best environments for businesses to thrive, creative ideas to take shape, and individuals to realize their aspirations while enjoying an exceptional quality of life. This achievement reflects not only visionary leadership but also the collective contributions of countless individuals who share a commitment to excellence,” said the Crown Prince.

Sheikh Hamdan attributed Dubai’s global success to the emirate’s comprehensive governance approach. He highlighted how flexible legislative frameworks, combined with world-class infrastructure, provide the foundation for attracting top talent globally. Additionally, Sheikh Hamdan acknowledged the collaborative spirit shared by Dubai’s public and private sectors as a key driver of its growth.

“Dubai’s high ranking on global indices shows that we are not just keeping pace with the world, we are setting new benchmarks for excellence,” Sheikh Hamdan added. The Global Power City Index (GPCI) adopts a holistic assessment of major cities worldwide. Each city is evaluated based on its “magnetism”, or ability to attract and retain talent, capital and innovation.

Dubai showcased a holistic agenda for sustainable growth and development. Crown Prince Handan highlighted “Dubai’s global status as a city of the future. By embracing strategic innovation and maintaining a strong commitment to excellence, we are creating new opportunities across industries.”

Dubai, one of the fastest-growing cities on the list, continues to foster an environment conducive to entrepreneurial experimentation, supported by easy access to capital and talent. With its impressive growth trajectory, the emirate earned high rankings in the 2024 GPCI across key categories, including Economy, Research and Development, Cultural Interaction, Livability, Environment, and Accessibility.
