Dubai unveils Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030 to transform urban living
The roadmap aims to embed natural spaces into daily life by expanding access to parks, sports facilities, coastlines and beaches.
Dubai Municipality on Tuesday unveiled the Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030 at the World Governments Summit, outlining a long-term strategy to create a more balanced and integrated urban ecosystem.
The launch took place in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, accompanied by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance.
The roadmap includes a portfolio of projects valued at more than $1.1 billion and is designed to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global leader in urban sustainability by integrating nature more deeply into the built environment to enhance quality of life.
According to Dubai Municipality, the strategy focuses on transforming infrastructure corridors into contributors to wellbeing and environmental resilience, supporting long-term growth through a people-centered urban development model.
By 2030, the roadmap aims to make natural spaces a core part of daily life in the city, improving access to parks, sports facilities, coastlines, and beach destinations.
Key targets include planting around 1.5 million trees over five years, completing more than 45 landscaping and beautification projects, and adding 120 new parks covering nearly three million square meters.
The plan also incorporates 200 sports and recreational spaces connected through green networks, in line with the Public Parks and Greenery Strategy and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The roadmap embeds sustainability into urban planning and design, integrating public facilities, parks, beaches, waterfronts, afforestation, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and advanced recycling and treatment systems. These measures aim to support public health, strengthen climate resilience, and promote a more human-centric urban environment.
It also redefines beaches and waterfronts as active urban assets. More than 15 major projects are planned to revitalize coastlines, with three new beach destinations to be introduced annually.
Dubai Municipality plans to increase beach facilities and amenities by 400%, expand public beach capacity by 150%, and extend beachfront walking, jogging, and cycling tracks by 285% under the emirate’s public beach development master plan.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the roadmap reflects Dubai’s broader ambition to set global standards for urban sustainability. He noted that the emirate is not only implementing advanced blue and green space management practices locally but also sharing its integrated urban development model internationally.
