Dubai’s energy demand surged by 5.4% in 2024, reaching 59,594 gigawatt hours (GWh), up from 56,516 GWh the previous year, according to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s continued investment in transmission and distribution networks, ensuring a world-class electricity and water infrastructure to support the emirate’s growing population and expanding economy.

“Dubai has become a global city and a preferred destination to live and work in, as well as a hub for business and tourism,” Al Tayer stated. “Dubai’s urban, economic, and demographic prosperity promotes DEWA’s sustainable growth, driven by growing demand for power and water.”

To keep pace with rising demand, DEWA is strengthening its transmission and distribution networks to ensure a reliable and resilient energy infrastructure. The company’s installed generation capacity has reached 17.179 GW, with clean energy accounting for 20%—a key step toward Dubai’s goal of 100% clean energy by 2050.

Peak demand also climbed by 3.4% in 2024, reaching 10.76 GW, underscoring the city’s growing energy needs. DEWA’s continued investment in infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions remains crucial in supporting Dubai’s rapid expansion.
