Egypt is making strides in its renewable energy sector by announcing a new 200-megawatt wind farm in the Gulf of Suez. This project, spearheaded by a consortium led by Masdar and Infinity Power, represents a key milestone in the country’s ambitious renewable energy strategy.

The agreement, signed during a ceremony in New Alamein City and witnessed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, underscores Egypt’s commitment to expanding its clean energy footprint.

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Essmat, and the UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Sultan Al Jaber, attended the event. This project forms a crucial component of Egypt’s strategy to elevate the role of renewable energy within its power generation mix while attracting substantial private sector investment in solar and wind projects.

The consortium will develop, finance, and operate the wind farm, with commercial operations expected to commence in October 2026. This initiative will significantly contribute to Egypt’s renewable energy goals by boosting the share of clean energy in the national grid.

Prime Minister Madbouly reiterated the government’s dedication to advancing renewable energy projects as part of a broader strategy to diversify electricity generation and decrease reliance on fossil fuels.

“There is a strong belief that the future of energy in Egypt lies in renewable energy. Therefore, it is crucial to explore ways to integrate as much renewable energy as possible into the electricity grid,Madbouly said.

Minister Essmat highlighted that the wind farm is in line with the government’s objectives to maximize the use of natural resources, cut carbon emissions, and reduce dependency on fossil fuels. He expressed his satisfaction with the partnership with Masdar and commends the UAE-based company as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
