The report highlights that implementing a product-level carbon accounting strategy poses considerable challenges. Many GCC energy companies have yet to establish comprehensive carbon accounting policies at the corporate level, making it even more challenging to apply them to individual products.

Additionally, several GCC countries are still building their regulatory and legislative frameworks for carbon emissions. Accurate reporting further demands robust methodologies and extensive data management capabilities, particularly for emissions tied to shared facilities in complex operational environments.

In his opening statement, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi highlighted AI’s transformative impact on global development. “We live in an era where AI is at the heart of global development, leaving its mark on every aspect of life and unlocking unparalleled opportunities for sustainable progress and growth,” he said.

President El-Sisi emphasized that the second edition of the National AI Strategy builds upon the first, which was launched in May 2021. The initial strategy focused on integrating AI tools into education, enhancing professional development, and strengthening international partnerships.

The updated strategy projects that up to 26% of Egypt’s workforce, currently considered a marginal population, will benefit from AI tools and applications. The number of AI professionals and experts will reach 30,000 by 2030. Additionally, the growth of AI technology, including generative AI, is expected to double the current number of AI publications to 6,000 per year, positioning Egypt as a regional hub for research and cooperation in the field.

“We remain steadfast in our pursuit of excellence in this transformative field,” El-Sisi said.  “Our goal is to solidify Egypt’s position as a leader in AI within the Middle East and Africa and as an influential contributor on the global stage.”

He reiterated the government’s commitment to investing in skill development and capacity building to cultivate AI professionals who meet the highest international standards.
