Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network, has confirmed that passenger services will launch in 2026, connecting 11 cities and regions across the country.

The network is designed to offer a safe, efficient, and fully integrated transport system, aligning with the UAE’s broader mobility ambitions.

Speaking at the Global Rail 2025 exhibition and conference in Abu Dhabi, Azza Al Suwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Passenger Services, said the company is collaborating with local transport providers, municipalities, and technology platforms to integrate first- and last-mile solutions, ensuring seamless connectivity.

She added that the passenger experience will prioritize comfort, reliability, and affordability, supported by a “digital tickets first” approach.

The network will feature routes fully separated from roads to eliminate collision risks and improve safety.

Planned journey times include 57 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, 105 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, and 70 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Ruwais.

Trains will accommodate up to 400 passengers, with multiple daily trips and stations designed to serve all residents through accessible infrastructure.

In addition to the passenger network, Etihad Rail is developing a high-speed rail project linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai, with trains reaching speeds of up to 350 km/h, reducing travel time to just 30 minutes.

The railway is expected to contribute approximately $39.5 billion to the UAE’s GDP over the next 50 years, highlighting the country’s drive to enhance connectivity and its leadership in next-generation rail development.
