Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) and the Khalifa University of Science and Technology’s Center for Membranes and Advanced Water Technology (CMAT) have agreed to establish a collaborative framework to enhance water treatment and resource management in the UAE.

This partnership will allow them to explore and evaluate advanced membrane technologies, as well as the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, to improve water quality and optimize desalination operations across the region.

Pilot projects will be initiated to evaluate various desalination technologies using AI-driven models to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of desalination processes. This collaboration will also promote knowledge sharing through educational programs, workshops, and competitions focused on advanced water technologies, offering students opportunities for internships and research.

As part of the partnership, students will have access to job opportunities through internships, research projects, and potential employment after graduation. Additionally, Khalifa University plans to integrate real-world case studies into its curriculum, enriching the educational experience and aligning it with industry needs.

Dr. Shadi W. Hasan, Director of the Centre for Membranes and Advanced Water Technology at Khalifa University, stated that integrating advanced membrane technologies with AI-driven optimization could significantly enhance efficiency and sustainability in desalination. This integration aims to improve water stability within the UAE, addressing the growing demand for reliable water resources.

Through this MoU, research conducted at Khalifa University will be applied to Etihad Water and Electricity’s operational projects, providing opportunities for testing and scaling of innovative solutions in water treatment and management.
