Google, Microsoft drive UAE’s AI ambitions with $80 billion economic impact and 150,000 new jobs
Google says 63% of UAE adults have used its Gemini AI assistant, while OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to gain popularity.

As the UAE positions itself as a global leader in digital innovation, major US tech companies are playing a pivotal role in driving economic growth and accelerating AI adoption across the Emirates. Aligned with the UAE’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple are not only investing heavily in infrastructure and services but also reshaping how people work, search, and interact with technology.
According to Google’s latest Economic Impact Report, in 2024, Google contributed $5.93 billion to the UAE economy, about 1% of the country’s GDP. Its platforms, including Search, Ads, YouTube, Play, and Maps, support a wide range of businesses, developers, and public entities.
Google’s data shows that 94% of UAE adults use Google Search monthly to compare prices, while 97% of public sector workers say its AI tools improve their productivity.
Microsoft also forecasts a long-term impact. A study by the International Data Corporation during GITEX projected that Microsoft and its partners will generate $73.71 billion in new revenue by 2028, with over $5.05 billion in data center investments and the creation of 152,000 jobs, more than 41,000 of them in skilled IT roles.
“This ambition has attracted US tech giants. In this regard, Microsoft has invested $1.5 billion in AI champion G42 and signed an agreement to implement a ‘sovereign cloud’ system for the Abu Dhabi government,” said Louis Napoletani, CEO of Mottli.
Meanwhile, changing user habits reflect a growing shift toward conversational AI. Google reports that 63% of UAE adults have used its Gemini AI assistant, while OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to gain popularity.
As AI tools become more deeply integrated into daily life, the UAE stands at the intersection of innovation, investment, and digital transformation.
