Green economy is a top priority for the Dubai Free Zones Council
The plan prepares the path for advancing the goals of the UAE Net Zero strategic initiative.
The Dubai Free Zones Council (DFZC) is positioning to put Dubai among the top three global cities and double the size of its economy in the next decade.
At a recent meeting headed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Council, the council explored the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the goals through a number of initiatives.
It outlined packages to streamline services and improve the experience for foreign investors. The council also discussed a number of other issues of the business sectors in the free zones, including hiring Emirati talent to work in free zone enterprises in Dubai and lowering free zone companies’ electricity and energy consumption. The strategy intends to increase value for enterprises while reducing energy and water demand for free zones and businesses by 30% by 2030.
This plan prepares the path for advancing the goals of the UAE Net Zero strategic initiative, which aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 in tandem with the Year of Sustainability and preparations to host COP 28.
The strategy also describes how to collaborate with the relevant government agencies to provide resources, tools, programs, and regulations, reduce the carbon footprint of free zones, and promote innovations, awareness technologies, and procedures linked to energy demand reduction and sustainability.
