Bahrain has inaugurated the Bapco Modernization Project (BMP), the largest strategic project in the Kingdom’s history.

The inauguration, held under the patronage of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and in the presence of Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, coincided with the Kingdom’s 53rd National Day and the Silver Jubilee of the King’s accession.

The BMP, comprised of 15 sub-stations and 21 new processing units, was executed by a global consortium in partnership with local companies. Over 500 Bahraini engineers will manage operations, reflecting His Majesty’s vision for technological leadership and national expertise.

The project represents a significant investment in Bahrain’s energy sector, marking over 93 years since the establishment of Bapco and the first crude oil flow in the Gulf region. The ceremony featured an exhibition, A Journey Through Time, showcasing Bahrain’s energy evolution.

In his address, His Majesty highlighted the BMP’s alignment with Bahrain’s energy transition strategy and Vision 2030 goals, focusing on maximizing natural resources, enhancing operational efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions.

“This landmark project reflects our enduring commitment to sustainable growth, utilizing the Kingdom of Bahrain’s natural energy resources to power economic progress and development,” he stated.

He also acknowledged Shaikh Nasser’s pivotal contributions to advancing the energy sector and praised Bahraini citizens for their dedication to national progress.
