From automating tasks to gleaning insights from vast datasets, AI is reshaping decision-making, optimizing processes, and now governance.

To usher in a new era of governance amid a prolonged period of political uncertainty, Lebanon has turned to technology to address its leadership vacuum. To overcome a two-year presidential deadlock, a Lebanese newspaper has launched what they claim is the world’s first AI President.

This AI tool, trained on 90 years of daily AnNahar’s archives, aims to provide unbiased analysis and solutions to the country’s pressing political, legal, and governmental challenges. This AI President, through data analysis and machine learning algorithms, formulates responses to political, legal, and governmental inquiries, offering insights and recommendations with neutrality.

AnNahar’s editor-in-chief, Nayla Tueni, unveiled the program in a live interview, showcasing its ability to address Lebanon’s current woes.

The country is grappling with a deep socio-economic crisis, with poverty estimates exceeding 80%. Following 13 failed parliamentary votes, the lack of a president has further exacerbated the situation.

Tueni hopes the AI President will serve as a catalyst to break the political gridlock and restore public trust. “We cannot simply stand by,” she said. “The prolonged absence of a president is detrimental to Lebanon. If parliament fails to fulfill its duty, the people will find their own president.”

Accessible through the website OurPresident.ai, AI President offers a unique perspective on Lebanese politics and potential solutions to the nation’s struggles. While its effectiveness remains to be seen, the initiative highlights the desperation for a solution amidst Lebanon’s ongoing crisis.

The Innovation By Design Summit is in Doha on April 24. Attendance at the summit is by invitation only. Delegates can register here to receive their exclusive invite.
