Mercedes to deliver first slot of hybrid hypercar by the second half of 2022
The exclusive car production is completed at 16 assembly and testing stations. Over 50 specialists work on each hypercar unit.
The production of Mercedes AMG-One customer vehicles has kicked off. The hypercar with Formula 1 technology goes into exclusive small-series production where only 275 cars are to be built.
According to a statement, the Formula 1-based hybrid powertrain, with a 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine and four electric motors, is being built by the motorsport experts at Mercedes-AMG in the UK. They are also responsible for developing and producing the power units for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 racing cars.
The production of complete vehicles will transpire in the UK, where Mercedes AMG-One has collaborated with manufacturing partner Multimatic for a dedicated production facility. The first slot of vehicles will be delivered in the second half of 2022.
“The Mercedes-AMG One is the most ambitious project we have ever undertaken – from development to production. It marks another high point in Mercedes-AMG’s successful strategic development toward an electrified future of driving performance. The production of the exclusive small series is a truly unique challenge. For the first time, the hypercar brings current Formula 1 hybrid technology almost one-to-one from the race track to the road and combines overwhelming performance with exemplary efficiency,” says Philipp Schiemer, chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
The exclusive car production is completed by hand at 16 assembly and testing stations. Over 50 specialists work on each hypercar unit.
A roll-out marks the final production stage at a nearby proving ground, where each Mercedes-AMG One undergoes final acceptance testing by a factory test driver. Technical briefing and vehicle handover happen at the Mercedes-AMG headquarters in Affalterbach.
