The region remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainability, with each country placing it at the forefront of its strategic vision. As a result, clear and ambitious targets have been set, reflecting a unified effort to contribute significantly to global climate goals.

In line with these regional sustainability efforts, the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) recently launched a national campaign titled “Our Sustainable Energy” in Salalah. The campaign is designed to raise awareness about clean energy, promote responsible consumption, and achieve optimal energy efficiency.

The two-day event, held under the patronage of H.H. Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, commenced with a keynote address by Dr. Mansour bin Talib al Hinai, Chairman of APSR. He highlighted Oman’s commitment to renewable energy as a crucial driver for economic and developmental growth in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.

This vision aims for renewable energy to account for 39% of the total energy supply by 2040 and targets achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Hinai emphasized APSR’s dedication to implementing national strategies for renewable energy projects in collaboration with relevant authorities, ensuring the effective utilization of renewable resources.

The authority has announced plans to establish five new wind power stations and advance solar energy projects, including Ibri 1, Ibri 2, Ibri 3, Manah 1, and Manah 2. These initiatives are part of a broader goal to derive 30% of electricity production from renewable sources by 2030.

Dr. Mohammed bin Ali al Kalbani, Director General of Sustainable Energy at APSR, revealed that the campaign will include six stops across various governorates and will train 180 individuals to become energy efficiency trainers within their organizations. Each stop will feature workshops and meetings, culminating in December 2024, with participation from government agencies, private sector companies, and volunteer groups.
