Oman is making a significant move to combat climate change by creating a comprehensive national adaptation plan. This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Environment Authority and the Green Climate Fund, was launched during a workshop in Muscat. It aims to pinpoint Oman’s specific adaptation needs and formulate strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change across various sectors.

During the two-day workshop, discussions focused on strengthening climate governance, enhancing implementation capacity, aligning national policies, engaging the private sector, and developing a financing strategy. This initiative marks a crucial step in boosting Oman’s resilience to climate change, supporting sustainable development, and aligning with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

Oman Vision 2040’s National Energy Strategy aims to expand renewable energy and improve efficiency, while the National Strategy for Adaptation and Mitigation to Climate Change underscores the need for resilient energy infrastructure.

In a further commitment to climate action, Oman will host its first-ever Oman Climate Week in February 2025. Organized by the Environment Authority, the event will gather experts from across the MENA region to accelerate global climate efforts and reinforce the sultanate’s dedication to achieving a zero-emissions future.

The Environment Authority’s initiatives highlight the critical need for financial support, emission reductions, phasing out coal, implementing carbon pricing, and transitioning to renewable energy to safeguard the environment for future generations.
