Oman’s civil aviation sector is rapidly progressing towards ambitious goals outlined in the country’s Vision 2040. Led by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the sector’s strategy emphasizes digital transformation, strategic partnerships, talent development, fostering investment growth, and enhancing aviation safety and security.

Oman’s strategic location, supported by government policies and a thriving air travel market, pushes the country towards achieving its aviation goals.

Recently, Oman achieved a significant milestone in aviation safety, soaring from 133rd to fifth globally in the latest rankings by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

This improvement was unveiled during a press conference hosted by the CAA on Wednesday. The ICAO highlighted Oman’s achievement in climbing from 133rd to fifth globally in the latest rankings. The rankings are derived from the ICAO’s Global Aviation Safety Oversight Audit Program, which evaluates countries’ adherence to international safety standards. Oman’s score surged from 60.47% in 2020 to 95.95% in 2023, surpassing 127 other nations.

This accomplishment is credited to coordinated national endeavors across various critical domains. Oman attained the highest global ranking in civil aviation legislation (100%) and government regulation of civil aviation (100%), underscoring the nation’s dedication to rigorous legal frameworks and effective regulatory supervision.

Substantial advancements were also achieved in airworthiness (99%), aviation navigation safety (97.27%), and aviation operations (95.65%). These enhancements result from investments in enhancing and enforcing safety standards for aircraft, navigation systems, and operational protocols. Oman also achieved commendable rankings in aviation licenses (96.43%) and airport safety (90.91%), highlighting its emphasis on competent personnel and secure airport facilities.

Engineer Naif Ali Al Abri, President of the CAA, emphasized that these efforts extended beyond the authority’s purview, with the Ministry of Transport contributing to a fourth-place global ranking in aviation accident and incident investigation. He underscored that this achievement surpassed the authority’s initial target of 85% compliance and aligned closely with the objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
