Oman to launch inaugural hydrogen station for sustainable mobility
Powered by solar energy and using electrolysis technology, the station will produce up to 130 kg of green hydrogen per day.

The GCC is ramping up efforts to integrate renewable alternatives into its expanding energy sector, with a strong focus on hydrogen-powered facilities to meet rising demand. Oman Shell has launched the Sultanate’s first hydrogen station, a major step toward sustainable mobility. Located near Muscat International Airport, the station is Oman’s first green hydrogen production facility, combining hydrogen refueling, EV fast-charging, and traditional fuel options in one hub.
Walid Hadi, Oman Shell’s VP and Country Chairman, noted the project’s role in advancing Oman’s sustainability efforts: “The Green Hydrogen for Mobility project underscores Oman Shell’s commitment to sustainable innovation in Oman.”
Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, emphasized the importance of this development: “The launch of the Sultanate of Oman’s first green hydrogen service station marks a pivotal milestone in our nation’s journey toward sustainability and energy diversification. By integrating renewable energy, onsite hydrogen production, and advanced mobility solutions, this project demonstrates the potential of hydrogen ecosystems in attracting investment and supporting future technologies.”
Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat, highlighted the importance of the station in Oman’s transportation future: “The launch of Oman’s first hydrogen fueling station marks a significant step in our journey toward sustainable mobility, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to a greener future.”
Ahmed Salem Al Abri, CEO of Nama Power and Water Procurement, added: “Nama will provide 7,000 International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) to Oman Shell over the next five years.”
