UAE to host World Bank and IMF annual meetings in Abu Dhabi in 2029
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said the decision reflects strong global confidence in the UAE’s financial stability, advanced infrastructure, and growing role in international economic cooperation.
The UAE has secured the rights to host the 2029 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, to be held in Abu Dhabi in October 2029.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the milestone and described it as a strong vote of confidence in the nation’s economic strength and institutional capabilities.
In a statement shared on social media, Sheikh Mohammed said the decision reflects the UAE’s established financial standing and highlights the efficiency and talent of its people. He noted that the meetings serve as a critical global platform, bringing together central bank governors and finance ministers from more than 190 countries to shape policies on financial stability and the future of the global economy.
The UAE was selected after receiving the most votes in a competitive international process, underscoring global trust in its stable, resilient economic environment, advanced infrastructure, and proven ability to host major international events. The country previously hosted the meetings in Dubai in 2003.
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance, said the achievement aligns with the UAE’s strategic vision to deepen international partnerships and strengthen its role as a global hub for financial and economic stability.
He added that the event will provide an important platform for fostering constructive dialogue among nations, advancing sustainable development, and reinforcing global financial integration.
The Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and IMF are among the world’s most significant economic gatherings, bringing together policymakers, financial leaders, and experts to address pressing global issues such as economic growth, financial stability, and development challenges.
Hosting the 2029 edition further reinforces the UAE’s position as a key player in international economic decision-making and a trusted partner in promoting multilateral cooperation and inclusive global growth.
