In a major step toward addressing global water scarcity, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has launched the Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform, a $2 billion initiative designed to drive investment and innovation in the global water sector.

Designed to advance sustainable water and food security, the platform will channel funding from local and international partners to deliver clean water solutions for developing communities. ADFD has committed an initial $1 billion over five years (2026–2030), targeting around 10 million beneficiaries worldwide.

Beyond financing infrastructure, the platform will support pioneering technologies and integrated water resource management initiatives. It also seeks to strengthen international collaboration through co-financing models, partnerships, and knowledge exchange, underscoring the UAE’s expanding leadership in global sustainable development.

Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, which promotes clean water and sanitation for all, the initiative reflects Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision for environmental resilience.

“This initiative stands as a key pillar of our 2030 strategy, reinforcing our mandate to deliver sustainable, high-impact solutions,” said Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of ADFD. “We aim to strengthen engagement with the international community to secure essential resources for future generations.”

ADFD plans to deploy a mix of innovative financing tools, including development loans, export financing, and equity investments, to fund water projects, research, and youth-led innovations.

The platform marks a milestone in ADFD’s sustainability agenda, positioning Abu Dhabi as a driving force in addressing one of the world’s most pressing challenges: ensuring equitable access to clean, safe water.
