Increasing electric air mobility has been a priority in the GCC region. Saudi Arabia’s NEOM plan for electric air taxis — it has successfully tested volocopter aircraft and the first eVTOL flight — and Dubai’s aim to launch flying taxis by 2025 serves as a testament.

In Qatar, the Ministry of Transport has announced plans to test electric air taxi services and electric delivery planes by early 2025.

The ministry said it had applied for all the necessary approvals and coordination with the concerned parties to proceed with the test runs.

As the country takes this new step to further advance its transportation sector, the ministry said the move will enhance Qatar’s public transit systems integration, coherence, sustainability, and eco-friendliness.

The decision aligns with the Third Qatar National Development Strategy, which focuses on leveraging advanced technologies and achieving sustainable development and economic diversification. At the same time, it boosts Qatar’s position as a global leader on the transportation map.
