Qatar promotes environmental progress at SCO Green Development Forum
Qatar recently launched its Third National Development Strategy to drive economic diversification and ensure environmental sustainability.
With a focus on sustainability, Qatar has made environmental progress central to its national development strategy, the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030), ensuring a cohesive approach towards a greener future.
Most recently, Qatar was leading in promoting green development at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Green Development Forum in Qingdao, China.
Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, led the Qatari delegation and emphasized the country’s commitment to sustainable growth.
Dr. Al Subaie highlighted Qatar National Vision 2030, which prioritizes “environmental development” alongside economic and social progress.Â
He also pointed to the recently launched Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030) as a key driver for economic diversification while ensuring environmental sustainability.
Qatar’s position as a leading natural gas supplier was highlighted as an advantage in the transition to a low-carbon future. Dr. Al Subaie showcased Qatar’s National Renewable Energy Strategy and the issuance of the first-ever Green Sukuk in the region, emphasizing the focus on financing environmentally friendly projects.
The Minister also announced Qatar’s ESG and Sustainability Strategy for the Financial Sector, underscoring its commitment to aligning its financial system with national sustainability goals.
Dr. Al Subaie’s participation went beyond speeches as he engaged in productive meetings with various ministers and officials, including representatives from Maldives, China, Belarus, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. Discussions centered on collaborative efforts to tackle climate challenges and strengthen cooperation on environmental and biodiversity preservation.
