Saudi Arabia’s newest airline, Riyadh Air, is set to make its debut by the end of 2025. The airline aims to transform air travel with a focus on digital innovation, premium passenger experiences, and strategic global partnerships.

“By the end of this year, you will see Riyadh Air in the skies,” CEO Tony Douglas assured attendees at the Saudi-government-backed Future Investment Initiative conference, emphasizing the airline’s readiness to cater to both domestic and international passengers.

The carrier, positioned as a key component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, has been aggressively forging partnerships, including a global airline partnership with LIV Golf and a high-profile performance by singer Jameela.

Douglas envisions Riyadh Air as a revival of classic aviation glamour, drawing comparisons to TWA and Pan Am, promising “haute couture, glamour, refinement, and style” for its cabin crew.

Central to Riyadh Air’s strategy is a digital-first approach, with an AI-powered concierge service, aiming to seamlessly integrate travel bookings with entertainment and dining options. “The power of digital is exactly that,” Douglas explained, envisioning a platform that anticipates passenger needs, akin to “Amazon, Uber, and Airbnb.”

Addressing market opportunities, Douglas asserted that the Saudi Arabian market is “underserved” and ripe for expansion. The airline has solidified connectivity agreements with Delta Air Lines and Singapore Airlines, facilitating seamless travel to international destinations.

“With Delta, for example, a passenger flying from Riyadh can easily connect to Phoenix or Baltimore via Atlanta or JFK,” Douglas explained.

The airline’s fleet plan includes orders for 72 Boeing 787s and 60 Airbus A321neos, with ongoing discussions for further widebody acquisitions. Despite Boeing’s delivery challenges, Douglas expressed confidence, stating, “Boeing will come good, there is no question.”

Riyadh Air aims to connect to 100 international cities by 2030, with Miami under consideration. Douglas highlighted Saudi Arabia’s growing tourism appeal, citing its position as the second most-searched tourism destination on Google last year and the allure of attractions like AlUla, Diriyah, and Riyadh.
