The National Water Company (NWC) has announced the successful completion of multiple water reservoir projects in the Diriyah governorate and the Hittin and Al Nakheel districts north of Riyadh. Built for $11.46 million, these reservoirs mark a significant milestone in the initial phase of Riyadh’s Strategic Water Plan.

These projects, part of the first phase of Riyadh’s Strategic Water Plan, involved constructing and operating two new water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters. Additionally, an existing tank was upgraded to increase its capacity to 4,000 cubic meters. With a total storage capacity of 24,000 cubic meters, these reservoirs significantly enhance the region’s efficiency and stability of water distribution.

The NWC emphasized that the project was crucial in ensuring a continuous water supply, particularly to the higher areas of Hittin and Al Nakheel. Saudi Arabia’s National Water Strategy aims to establish a sustainable water sector by 2030, focusing on preserving water, natural resources, and the environment.

It seeks to provide cost-effective supply and high-quality services, contributing to both economic and social development. The strategy outlines ten programs and forty-seven initiatives within its Implementation Plan, addressing agriculture, sustainability, risk management, and disaster resilience.
