Saudi Arabia expands green energy cooperation with Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan at COP29
Key focus areas include enhancing energy infrastructure efficiency, integrating renewable projects into national grids, and exploring joint investment opportunities.
Saudi Arabia has taken significant strides in expanding its green energy footprint, signing a joint executive program with Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan at the COP29 climate summit in Baku.
The agreement, signed by Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and his counterparts, focuses on strengthening cooperation in the development and transfer of renewable energy technologies.
Key areas of focus include improving energy infrastructure efficiency, integrating renewable energy projects into national grids, and identifying joint investment opportunities.
This signing builds on earlier agreements between Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan, which were made in Riyadh and Jeddah in 2022 and 2023.
Additionally, two strategic agreements were signed with ACWA Power to advance renewable energy projects in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
In Uzbekistan, a partnership with the Ministry of Energy will focus on developing battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a capacity of up to 2 GWh.
In Azerbaijan, a collaboration with SOCAR and Masdar will focus on developing up to 3.5 GW of offshore wind energy in the Caspian Sea, marking the country’s first project of this kind.
The agreement also aims to expand cooperation in electricity generation, regional interconnection, and energy storage, with a particular focus on identifying new investment opportunities.
