Saudi Arabia to build 92,000-seat sports stadium for 2034 FIFA World Cup
The facility is set for completion by the end of 2029.
Over the past few years, Saudi Arabia has been making huge sports-related investments, including hundreds of millions of dollars to recruit soccer stars to play on Saudi-based teams or be tourism ambassadors.
In a move to further develop its sports sector and gear up toward hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup, Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for Riyadh City and the Ministry of Sport revealed plans for a 92,000-capacity stadium.
The King Salman Stadium will host major global entertainment and sports events, boosting the kingdom’s economy.
Spanning across more than 660,000 square meters, the stadium is set for completion by Q4 2029, according to the state news agency SPA.
“This design was chosen from several submissions by six international companies, ensuring it meets FIFA requirements and standards of sustainability and architectural excellence,” the Royal Commission for Riyadh City posted on X.
To serve as the home ground for the kingdom’s national soccer team, the stadium will be part of a sports complex that includes an indoor sports hall and an Olympic-sized pool. The complex is interconnected by a sports track that runs for nine kilometers around King Abdulaziz Park.
The facility will feature a 150-seat royal suite, 120 hospitality suites, 300 VIP seats, and 2,200 dignitary seats.
