Arsenale S.p.A., a leading Italian luxury hospitality and experiential travel company, unveiled the mock-up of Dream of the Desert—Saudi Arabia’s first ultra-luxury train—during the ninth edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh.

Developed in partnership with Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, the Transport General Authority (TGA), the Ministry of Culture, and the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), the launch marks a major milestone for high-end rail travel in the Middle East.

Presented under FII’s theme, “The Key to Prosperity,” the showcase offered the first glimpse of the train’s design, craftsmanship, and onboard experience.

The Dream of the Desert will feature 31 private suites and two presidential suites, accommodating up to 66 guests. The train will also include two restaurant cars and a Majlis lounge, designed in desert-inspired tones with gold accents and finely crafted wood finishes that reflect Saudi heritage.

Guests will be able to choose between two fine-dining experiences—one showcasing authentic Saudi cuisine and another offering international dishes with Italian influences.

Scheduled to begin operations in late 2026, the train will travel approximately 1,300 kilometers from Riyadh, stopping at select destinations that highlight the Kingdom’s natural landscapes and cultural landmarks. Each one- to two-night journey is designed to immerse guests in Saudi Arabia’s heritage and scenic beauty.

Beyond its striking design, Dream of the Desert will offer bespoke experiences both on and off the train, including curated excursions, private performances, and immersive cultural activities. The journey will take guests through UNESCO World Heritage sites and other remarkable Saudi destinations.

Paolo Barletta, CEO of Arsenale S.p.A., described the project as “a moving masterpiece born from the dialogue between Italian craftsmanship and Saudi vision.”

Saudi Arabia Railways CEO Dr. Bashar Khalid AlMalik said the unveiling highlights the progress of Saudi transport initiatives and reflects SAR’s commitment to developing premium, tourism-focused rail services.

Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and SAR Chairman H.E. Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser emphasized that the project demonstrates the Kingdom’s rapid transformation in the rail sector and its growing appeal to international investors. He added that the train aligns with the national strategy’s goal of expanding tourism-oriented transport options.

Designed by architect and interior designer Aline Asmar d’Amman, founder of Culture in Architecture, the interiors blend Saudi cultural motifs with Italian artistry. The spaces feature textured fabrics, traditional wood carvings, and Murano glass lighting inspired by desert hues and oasis greenery, creating an atmosphere that balances tradition with modern elegance.
