Saudi Arabia and Germany have signed an agreement to create a “Green Hydrogen Bridge,” enabling large-scale exports of green hydrogen from the kingdom to Europe. Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and Germany’s SEFE, the two companies will collaborate on producing and transporting green hydrogen and green ammonia, aiming for an initial output of 200,000 tons per year by 2030.

Under the agreement, ACWA Power will oversee the development, investment, and operation of green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities. SEFE, a leading European energy trader, will serve as a co-investor and primary off-taker, distributing the green hydrogen to customers across Germany and Europe.

The initiative supports Saudi Arabia’s goal of becoming a global leader in green hydrogen production and export. It also strengthens the broader Saudi-German Energy Dialogue, which fosters collaboration in renewable energy and clean hydrogen technologies.

As a state-owned German energy company, SEFE plays a vital role in energy security and decarbonization, with operations spanning sourcing, trading, sales, transport, and storage. This partnership with ACWA Power marks a significant step toward advancing Europe’s clean energy transition and securing a sustainable energy future for Germany.
