Space42 and DMT partner to build AI-powered digital twins of Abu Dhabi
Space42 has signed an MoU with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport to develop AI and geospatial solutions that power the Emirate’s next-generation smart city systems.
In a move that reinforces Abu Dhabi’s leadership in data-driven urban innovation, Space42 has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) to co-develop geospatial and AI solutions that will drive the Emirate’s next generation of smart city systems.
“Cities are living systems, and data is their heartbeat,” said Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space42. “Our partnership with DMT reflects Space42’s ambition to be a global leader in geospatial intelligence and AI platform services, helping cities become safer and more responsive to people’s needs.”
Dr. Saif Sultan Al Nasri, Acting Undersecretary of DMT, said the collaboration marks “a major step forward in our smart city journey.” “Through this collaboration with Space42, we are harnessing advanced geospatial data to gain deeper insights into how our urban environments function, enabling us to design a more agile, adaptive and future-ready city infrastructure,” Al Nasri said.
As part of the agreement, Space42 will provide satellite data services and AI-powered mapping tools to support how DMT plans, maintains, and expands Abu Dhabi’s infrastructure. The collaboration will also include pilot projects, capacity-building programs, and joint research exploring how space technology can enhance urban planning and environmental management.
The initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s Government Digital Strategy 2025–2027, which allocates AED 13 billion toward AI and cloud technologies to modernize public services. Ranked fifth globally in the 2025 IMD Smart City Index, Abu Dhabi continues to set benchmarks for sustainable, data-driven governance.
