In a major step toward advancing sustainable development and reducing environmental impact, the UAE has launched Tahweel, the country’s first fully integrated national digital marketplace for recyclable materials. As the world increasingly adopts circular economy models, the platform positions the UAE at the forefront of innovative waste management and green economic transformation.

Announced by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), Tahweel was developed in collaboration with BEEAH and is part of the UAE’s federal transformational projects for 2024–2025. The initiative aligns with the national We the UAE 2031 vision, which aims to establish the country as a global hub for the new economy within the next decade.

“Tahweel reflects our leadership’s vision to transform environmental challenges into promising economic and developmental opportunities,” said Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment. “We are moving waste management beyond its traditional concept into a new economic domain.”

She added, “The Tahweel platform is a comprehensive ecosystem that enhances transparency and efficiency in the recyclable materials market,” enabling enterprises of all sizes to participate in a regulated, efficient recycling economy.

The launch was held at BEEAH’s headquarters in Sharjah during the fourth meeting of the UAE Council for Environmental and Municipal Work. MOCCAE and BEEAH signed a strategic agreement strengthening public–private sector cooperation.

Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH Group, said, “Tahweel marks a significant leap towards a future-ready circular economy in the UAE.” Powered by BEEAH’s subsidiary re.life, the platform supports real-time trading of recyclables such as metals, plastics, and e-waste. Businesses with valid trade licenses can engage in direct, transparent exchanges using auctions or instant sales, eliminating intermediaries and reducing operational costs.

“This is a key driver toward positioning the UAE as a global leader in the new and sustainable economy,” Dr. Al Dahak added.
