The efficiency of a nation’s logistics sector shapes the speed and reach of innovation across its regions. Emphasizing sustainability, the UAE’s capital has integrated digital infrastructures into its thriving maritime industry to maintain and enhance these efficiencies.

The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has partnered with Abu Dhabi Maritime, a division of AD Ports Group, to launch MARSDNA. Developed by Maqta Technologies Group, this innovative tool aims to help maritime sector stakeholders meet their ESG goals for 2025.

This digital tool features an intuitive user interface, allowing maritime businesses and organizations to assess their progress against national and international ESG benchmarks. It also provides personalized, near-instant recommendations to strengthen their initiatives.

MARSDNA provides a free questionnaire on the Abu Dhabi Maritime website, inviting users to evaluate their ESG progress. Based on their responses, the tool generates a detailed, downloadable report with additional resources and a customized roadmap for performance enhancement.

For Abu Dhabi Mobility and Abu Dhabi Maritime, MARSDNA—short for ‘Maritime Sustainability DNA,’ which also alludes to the Arabic word for observatory—marks a significant milestone in advancing sustainable practices.

Drawing on data from various ESG standards, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the International Maritime Organization metrics, MARSDNA provides a free, user-friendly tool that simplifies ESG tracking. Its accessibility makes it suitable for organizations of all sizes, including small and medium enterprises.

Dr. Noura Al Dhaheri, CEO of Maqta Technologies Group and Digital Cluster at AD Ports Group, remarked, “MARSDNA reflects AD Ports Group’s commitment to advancing sustainable development through world-class digital solutions. Digitalization is a powerful catalyst for collective progress, enabling users to envision and achieve their environmental goals. MARSDNA will support Abu Dhabi in realizing its potential as a global leader in maritime sustainability.”

In its initial phase, MARSDNA targets five key segments within the maritime sector: shipping companies, port and terminal operators, freight forwarders and cargo recipients, marine and offshore services, and marina operators. Future phases will expand the tool’s coverage to include the entire maritime sector.

Abu Dhabi Mobility highlighted that the launch of MARSDNA, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Maritime, underscores its commitment to sustainability and advancing ESG initiatives within the maritime industry.

Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and Chief Sustainability Officer at AD Ports Group, described MARSDNA as a groundbreaking tool that will significantly enhance ESG efforts within the sector.
