As nations worldwide race to tackle the cybersecurity challenges posed by quantum computing, the UAE has taken a bold step forward. In a strategic collaboration, Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), ADGM Academy (ADGMA), the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), Hub71, and ASPIRE have launched the country’s first quantum-secure communications testbed. The initiative represents a significant leap toward building future-proof digital infrastructure, particularly for high-stakes sectors such as finance and digital assets.

The testbed will explore the use of quantum technology—specifically Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)—to transfer ultra-secure data. As part of the initiative, TII, the applied research arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), has deployed its proprietary QKD solution across a three-node network within ADGM. This commercial-scale “living lab” allows real-time testing of quantum-safe communication in an operational environment.

Facilitated by ASPIRE, ATRC’s innovation acceleration unit, the project serves as a crucial bridge between advanced scientific research and practical, industry-ready applications. It also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s position as a regional leader in digital security innovation.

“Abu Dhabi and ADGM are committed to staying ahead of the curve in digital security and innovation,” said Salem Al Darei, CEO of ADGM Authority. “QKD is more than just a technical advancement; it lays the foundation for building trust in the digital communications of tomorrow.”

Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, added, “We are proud to collaborate with forward-thinking partners to position Abu Dhabi at the forefront of global quantum advancements.”

Stephane Timpano of ASPIRE, Mansoor Jaffar of ADGM Academy, and Ahmad Ali Alwan of Hub71 also emphasized the critical role of industry collaboration in developing secure, future-ready systems powered by emerging technologies such as quantum computing.
