UAE energy sector leaders and officials emphasized the importance of collective action and international cooperation to tackle global energy challenges while celebrating the nation’s achievements in the sector.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) released a press statement acknowledging this commitment, which was endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and adopted by 54 countries worldwide.

On the occasion of World Energy Day, the focus is on promoting safe and sustainable energy for all through national policies, international cooperation, and raising awareness about environmental preservation. The UAE has prioritized diversifying its energy sources, increasing the share of clean and renewable energy, and encouraging investments in related sectors. The UAE Energy Strategy 2050 aims to triple the contribution of renewable energy by 2030.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, emphasized the critical need to balance economic growth with environmental preservation.

“The UAE successfully achieved this balance and now is one of the leading countries globally in the transition to renewable and clean energy.” Al Maktoum stated.

“World Energy Day serves as a call for collective action and cooperation between nations to support the efforts to expand the use of clean and renewable energy, innovate smart mechanisms and solutions that enhance efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions from the energy sector.”

Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, highlighted the UAE’s leadership in adopting clean energy technologies. “Today, we have six gigawatts of renewables and 5.6 GW of nuclear energy. That makes our grid one of the cleanest worldwide,” he noted.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and CEO of DEWA, highlighted the significance of research, development, innovation, and efficiency in lowering carbon emissions and promoting sustainable economic growth.

Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, underscored the pivotal role of energy in shaping a sustainable future. “It’s our responsibility to innovate and invest in cleaner, more efficient energy solutions to preserve the environment for future generations,” he stated.

Several UAE energy leaders, including Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE), and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, also stressed the significance of World Energy Day. They highlighted the vital role of renewable energy solutions, innovation, and investment in clean technologies.
